8 Questions About Tanzania Safaris   Answered by   Bruno Nassary

"Get ready to have all your questions about Tanzania safaris answered by Bruno Nassary in this comprehensive and informative article."red by Bruno Nassary in this comprehensive and informative article."

1.When is the best time to visit Tanzania?

You can book a Tanzania safari, at any time of the year, but the best time to visit depends on your interests. If witnessing the wildebeest migration is your main focus, you will need to plan carefully.

The period from June to October is ideal for observing the migration in the Serengeti. You may need to stay in different areas of the park at different times during the migration. This depends on the rain, so it's not always predictable.

If you prefer to avoid crowds, it's best to book accommodation in the Serengeti away from the wildebeest migration. March to May receive the highest rainfall, and any safari during this time could be impacted.

2.Why visit Tanzania, what are the major attractions?

“Tanzania is the quintessential safari destination, offering both quality and quantity. The wildlife viewing is superb and there is just so much choice in terms of places to visit and things to do. In fact, it would be hard to experience all of the highlights even in three Tanzania holidays, let alone one.

There are three safari circuits. The Northern safari circuit is the most popular and includes famous places like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. The lesser-known Southern circuit centers on Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) and Ruaha National Park. The Western circuit includes Katavi National Park and chimpanzee reserves by Lake Tanganyika.

Avid mountain climbers might be surprised to learn the highest peak in Africa is in Tanzania. Climbers ascend Mt. Kilimanjaro from the Tanzanian side, which lies between Kenya and Tanzania.

3  How much does a Tanzania safari cost?

"Tanzania Safari tours are best for small groups of two or four people, like families or friends. Prices start at around US$500 per person per day, but the total cost can vary depending on different factors."

For example, camping safaris are generally cheaper than lodge safaris. The Serengeti and other parks in the Northern circuit have cheaper big hotels. These are more affordable compared to the smaller, exclusive lodges and tented camps. The smaller accommodations are usually more basic.

The season makes a big difference too. Traveling during the rainy season can save you money. Visiting during the peak of the wildebeest migration will be more expensive.

4  How is the wildlife viewing in Tanzania?

“The wildlife viewing in Tanzania is superb. Explore Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater on a Tanzania safari in the Northern circuit. Any of these parks offer fantastic game viewing, although some of it is seasonal.

Doing the whole circuit enhances the experience as you’ll be going through a variety of habitats and environments. The parks are large enough to avoid crowds. However, the Northern circuit is the most popular, so you might still see other tourists.

If you want to escape, try the Southern circuit for more challenging but still good game viewing. This circuit is ideal for those who have visited Africa before. They are not primarily interested in seeing the big five animals.

5   How safe is Tanzania for tourists?

“Tanzania has a slick and experienced tourist industry, and a Tanzanian safari overall is very safe. That said, there is a lot of petty crime in big cities such as Dar es Salaam, so walking around alone isn’t recommended.

In Arusha and other tourist areas, sellers may approach tourists. This is usually harmless. They are just trying to sell items such as safaris or jewelry.

Being firm and standing your ground is usually all it takes to diffuse any situation. Most people on Tanzanian tours don't spend much time in urban areas, so this is not likely to be a concern.

6  How do I select a reliable Tanzanian tour operator?

“Tanzania is a popular African safari destination and many large reputable operators working in Africa sell Tanzanian holidays. Most operators have similar packages, with the main differences being in the quality of the guides and vehicles.

If you like something specific, you can search for tour companies that focus on that interest. If you have a specific interest, you can look for tour companies that specialize in that activity.

For example, there are tours for walking safaris or fly camping. During fly camping, we set up a camp for you at a private location. You can compare Tanzania safari prices and packages on our site here.

7   What type of accommodation can I expect?

The safari industry in Tanzania has established itself well and offers a good variety of accommodation. Choosing a camping safari with a comfortable outfitter is a budget-friendly and adventurous way to travel. If you don't like traditional camping but want to stay in a tent, there are tented camps with beds and bathrooms. These tented camps offer different levels of luxury.

If you don't like being in nature at night, there are hotels that offer a complete break from the countryside. This also means there are fewer bugs in your room.

Designers are now creating luxury lodges to blend in with nature. These lodges offer top-notch service and a high level of comfort. The sky is the limit!”

8   What can I expect from a safari in Tanzania?

“When on a Tanzania tour, you can expect an experience of a lifetime – or maybe the first of many more to come. Once the safari bug has bitten, people tend to return over and over again to experience the African bush. It is hard to stay away for too long. Tanzania is great for first-time safaris with amazing wildlife and African landscapes in the Northern circuit. It's everything you could want and more.

Tanzania is also the perfect destination for repeat visitors, as your first visit won’t even scratch the surface of the touring options. Experienced safari enthusiasts enjoy visiting remote parks that are home to unique animals. These parks include African wild dogs in the South and chimpanzees in the West.
