Tanzania Safari from Zanzibar - Tour and Price

Safaris from Zanzibar, are one of our specialties! With more customers booking their Zanzibar beach vacations online, the demand for Tanzania safaris from Zanzibar Island grew, so we created our Tanzania tour from Zanzibar packages.

Even though Zanzibar has a forest called Jozani that's famous for its special red colobus monkeys, most people know Zanzibar for its beautiful beaches rather than for safaris to see wildlife.

As a result, our Zanzibar Safari takes you to Tanzania national parks, where you may explore the well-known hotspots of the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit or the Southern Tanzania Safari Circuit, which are both nearby. You will fly from Zanzibar to Mainland Tanzania ready for Safari.

In the northern circuit, you can visit Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, and Lake Manyara National Park.

Our safari Zanzibar is a private and Group safari experience, so you may start the safari on whatever date you want, and you can opt to choose from a Group safari from Zanzibar or a private safari from Zanzibar. 6 Questions About Safaris From Zanzibar

What parks are best for a safari from Zanzibar?

When traveling for safari from Zanzibar to most parks on the Tanzanian mainland, a brief flight is usually required, with the possibility of a layover in Arusha or Dar es Salaam.

If I had to choose just one region of Tanzania to visit during my safari from Zanzibar, it would be the northern part of the country. Here, you'll discover Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, which are unquestionably my top recommendations. Both of these destinations are conveniently located near Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks, which are exceptional wildlife spots if time permits. To visit all four of these destinations, a minimum of 10 days would be necessary.

Consider heading south to visit Nyerere National Park, known for its diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife, including elephants and lions. Adding Nyerere to your itinerary would extend your trip by at least 3 days. If you have extra time, you might also want to explore Mikumi National Park and potentially even Ruaha National Park for a true wilderness adventure.

How many days is recommended for a trip from Zanzibar?

How long you spend on your Zanzibar safari will vary based on your destination preferences. If you have 3 to 4 days, it's best to focus on one park like Nyerere or the Serengeti. With a few extra days, you can explore additional parks like Ngorongoro or Lake Manyara.10 days allows for a fuller Northern safari circuit or multiple parks in the south.

Is a Serengeti safari possible from Zanzibar?

You can combine a visit to the Serengeti with a stay in Zanzibar by choosing from many tour options that offer this possibility. Typically, this entails flying from Zanzibar to Arusha in northern Tanzania and then taking another flight from Arusha to one of the airstrips in the Serengeti.

Alternatively, you can also drive from Arusha to the Serengeti and explore other attractions along the way, such as Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, although this will require additional time. The Serengeti is truly worth the visit and ranks as one of my top parks in Africa. The wildlife here is simply amazing.

This is especially the case during the great wildebeest migration, which you can see at different stages from January to August or September. But any time of year is good for wildlife viewing in the Serengeti, where you’ll see the big cats, elephant and so many other species.”

Should I go on a fly-in trip from Zanzibar?

It is highly likely that your safari from Zanzibar will involve flying. Even though there are ferry connections between Zanzibar Island and the mainland, they are considerably slower than flying and not very convenient for travelers going to Tanzania for a safari.

Additionally, after flying from Zanzibar, typically flying into Arusha or Dar es Salaam, you have the option to fly from these airports to your preferred national park.

Admittedly, traveling by air is significantly costlier than driving, but it allows you to maximize your holiday time for safari activities instead of spending it on the road. Additionally, you'll be treated to breathtaking aerial views. Opting for an air transfer is akin to embarking on a picturesque flight, and there's an undeniable allure to disembarking from an aircraft deep within a national park surrounded by wildlife.

How much does a Tanzania trip from Zanzibar cost?

Calculating the cost of a Zanzibar to Tanzania mainland safari involves considering numerous variables. Generally, you should anticipate a minimum cost of US$300 per person per day for the safari from Zanzibar, with the potential for prices to reach triple that amount for more luxurious packages. There are several factors contributing to these variations, with accommodation being one of them.

Staying in luxury tented camps is significantly more expensive than going on a budget camping safari. The frequency of flights can also significantly impact costs. Additional considerations are the duration of the safari, the timing of travel (high-season prices may be twice as high as those in low season), and the specific type of safari chosen (for instance, a private safari incurs higher costs than a group safari).

Can you do a classic safari on Zanzibar Island?

A classic safari is not possible on Zanzibar Island. You might find some wildlife parks on the island, but they are more like zoos, and visiting them is nothing like going on a real safari in one of Tanzania’s parks.

If you want to experience a genuine safari during your visit to Zanzibar, talk to your tour operator about the possibilities. They can recommend destinations and wildlife viewing options accessible by flying to the mainland. Before discussing this with them, it's important to conduct your own research and have a clear idea of the specific animals you wish to encounter. If your interest lies in observing big cats and elephants, then locations like the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, and Nyerere are all outstanding choices.

If, on the other hand, you’d like to follow in the footsteps of Jane Goodall and spend time tracking chimpanzees through the forest, then Gombe and Mahale Mountains National Parks (in the far west of the country) should be high on your list.”
