Name Origin - "Chemka":

The name "Chemka" is derived from the Chaga language, spoken by the local Chaga people. "Chemka" translates to "boiling," a fitting name for the bubbling and effervescent nature of the hot springs.

The depth of the hot spring water varies, reaching up to 20 feet and even 20 meters in some sections so you'll need assistance from a guide to navigate the swimming areas., necessitating careful guidance during your swim. Local Tanzanian youths volunteer as guides, and you can choose one, negotiating the fee for their assistance beforehand.

For those less familiar with swimming or apprehensive about diving, floaters are available to provide buoyancy in the water. Before diving in, a nearby changing room enclosed with grass is accessible for your convenience.

As you enter the area, whether the water is cold or warm, you can swing and dive freely. The name "Chemka" comes from the Swahili language, meaning "boiling." This term reflects the warm temperature of the oasis water, similar to boiled water. While the water doesn't actually boil, its warmth adds to the allure of the site.

Don't forget to bring a waterproof camera to capture the mesmerizing beauty and record your memories of the visit to Tanzania. If you lack a specialized camera, a smartphone can serve for photos and videos.

Chemka Hotspring offers additional delights beyond swimming. Adventure seekers can enjoy swinging from a long rope tied to a tree, experiencing side-to-side movement before plunging into the hot spring water. For a unique experience, there's also a fish massage where small tilapia fish, locally known as "massage fish," nibble on the dead skin of your feet. This adds an extra layer of enjoyment as you feel the playful interaction during the fish massage.

Cultural Activities.

Post-swimming indulgences include a fish massage and swinging over the Hotspring. Following these activities, you can explore a local cultural shop where you can purchase a variety of African cultural items such as huts, hand-drawn pictures, dresses, Maasai sandals, key holders, bangles, chains, necklaces, and woven buckets. These items are reasonably priced, and the cost is negotiable for each item. The shop offers an array of attractive souvenirs, ensuring that after visiting the Hotspring, you won't leave without at least one item to take home.

Food and Accommodation:

While there may not be on-site dining, visitors often bring picnic-style meals to enjoy amidst the natural beauty. Nearby accommodations in Moshi provide a range of lodging options, allowing travelers to rest and rejuvenate after their visit.
